What's On Your Bookshelf? 2021

In January 2021, I set a 50-book challenge for myself on Goodreads. I have 7 books left to read – and we’re now 15 days from December 31. Yikes!

I’ve gathered a few titles from the What’s On Your Bookshelf? Link Party – and plan to pick up A Christmas Carol tomorrow on Donna’s recommendation – and hope to hit my mark. But in the meantime, I’ll share what I’ve been reading lately.

Most Recent Reads:

Author Selena Montgomery – also known as Stacey Abrams. For those who may not be familiar, Stacey Abrams is, among many other things, a political activist out of Atlanta, Georgia. Before hitting the national stage, Stacey published crime/romance novels under the pen name Selena Montgomery. Since Stacey is sort of my shero for how she impacted the 2020 elections, I wanted to check out a few of her novels. I enjoyed her combination of crime and romance.

Of Particular Interest

I’d like to share two books that I found particularly interesting for the knowledge and understanding I gained about the real-world events that played as the backdrop to the lives of the characters.

The Great Believers by Rebecca Makkaifocuses on friendship and family during the height of the AIDs crisis in 1980s Chicago.

China Dolls by Lisa See tells the story of three friends working as performers in the San Francisco Chinese American nightclub scene of the 1930s and 40s.

Nonfiction:

Unapologetic: Stand in Your Power by Tammy Helfrich takes you on a journey to yourself – and how to live unapologetically.

Bucket Listers Get Your Brave On: How To Do the Thing You're 'Too Old' & 'Too Scared' To Do by Marilyn Flower. A very practical approach to stretching out of your comfort zone and tackling your bucket list.

Bitcoin and the Future of Fundraising by Anne Connelly is a great introduction to the basics of cryptocurrency. If you are in any way involved in the nonprofit world – as an employee, volunteer, board member, or founder – the entire book would be informative and practical.

I had no Christmas books to share - but perhaps you'll find a few titles to begin the new year!
